The 2.55, created by Gabrielle Chanel in February 1955, made a shoulder strap central to the design. Its flat-link chain and Mademoiselle turn-lock distinguish the original 2.55 vocabulary.
The Classic Flap—known by CHANEL as the Classic 11.12—belongs to a later reinterpretation of that lineage. Its interlocking CC turn-lock and leather-interwoven chain make it related to, but not the same as, the 2.55. Materials, dimensions and seasonal options change; a model name alone is not a complete specification.

Researching an individual bag
Use a model-specific reference whenever possible. A recognizable logo, clasp or material pattern can help identify the design, but does not authenticate an individual bag. Production details, sizing and available services can change across years and markets.
For current specifications, check the house’s own product details. For historical context, read museum records alongside the house account. For a pre-owned purchase, assess the exact item’s construction, condition, provenance and return terms separately.

Brand pages document the house’s own descriptions; independent museum records add historical context. Neither is a substitute for item-specific provenance or a professional assessment.
